The choice ultimately depends on personal preferences. It’s important to note that measurements and benchmarks for processors are generally approximate and can be influenced by various factors, such as the motherboard, memory, and more.

1. AMD Ryzen 5 5600G.

In terms of overall performance, combined with its price, I consider the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G to be a complete value-for-money (VFM) choice. Besides offering excellent graphics capabilities, its performance is on par with the top-performing 5600X in all benchmarks. This processor, released in April 2021, comes with a host of features, and given its price, there’s no reason not to consider it.

I personally find its features highly satisfying. It’s worth noting that it may not be the most future-proof choice for gaming, as it’s limited by the PCI_e 3.0 communication protocol, which can affect its performance with external graphics cards. However, let’s explore a few of its key specifications:

It boasts a total of 8 threads and has remarkably low power consumption, drawing only 60W. Intel’s new processor technology is hybrid, typically combining E-cores (Efficient-cores) and P-cores (Performance-cores). However, in this case, there are no E-cores included.

The Intel Core i3-12100 comes with Intel® UHD Graphics 730, which are considered very low-end and not recommended for gaming.

As for the positive aspects of the Ryzen 7 5700G, it offers 8 cores and is suitable for various applications, including gaming, while maintaining low power consumption. Furthermore, it is compatible with a range of motherboards.

However, the negative elements include the use of PCI_e 3.0, a 16MB L3 cache, and its pricing.

4. Intel Core i5-12400.

Intel introduces a mid-range processor that embodies all the advantages of the new generation of processors. This 6-core, 12-thread product is positioned as a mid-range option, offering a balance between affordability and high performance. It features a base core speed of 2.5 GHz, which can reach a maximum of 4.4 GHz, making it suitable for various tasks. With a power consumption of 65W, it comes with integrated graphics similar to the i3-12100. Essentially, your investment in this case goes toward the processor’s performance and the number of cores. If these attributes are not essential for your work, I would recommend considering the i3-12100.

On the positive side, the Intel i5-12400 excels in single-core speed and provides 6 cores, along with support for PCI_e 4.0 and 5.0 (depending on the motherboard). However, it may be on the pricier side and may not meet all graphics performance requirements.

5. Ryzen 5 7600X.

The list above wouldn’t be complete without AMD’s new generation entry-level processor. The Ryzen 7000 series, released in September 2022, introduces a fresh architecture and a significant leap over the 5000 series. The initial offering in this series, the Ryzen 5 7600X, is the most budget-friendly option available. Its unique aspect and drawback, given its affordability, is that it necessitates pairing with new-generation motherboards and exclusively with DDR5 RAM. This results in a higher system cost when compared to our earlier options, which can be combined with more economical motherboards and DDR4 RAM.

Nonetheless, if you’re seeking an affordable option while simultaneously diving into the new technology brought by both DDR5 and PCIe 5.0, then the Ryzen 5 7600X represents an excellent choice.

One of the significant advantages of this processor is the inclusion of integrated graphics in all Ryzen Zen4 processors, eliminating the need to compromise on performance, as was the case with the previous 3000 and 5000 series. When paired with DDR5, it becomes a future-proof option, albeit at the expense of rapidly increasing the overall system cost. If you’re in search of the most value-for-money CPU with integrated graphics, this may not be the best choice.

There’s also the non-X option of the Ryzen 5 7600 if you’re aiming to further reduce the price.

Personally, I don’t believe that a 6-core CPU is a wise choice for the future anymore, and I would definitely prefer a processor with at least 8 cores.

The Ryzen 5 7600X is a 6-core, 12-thread processor that operates at clock speeds ranging from 4.7 GHz to 5.3 GHz depending on the workload. It is composed of a single 5nm Core Complex Die (CCD) along with a 6nm I/O die, featuring 32MB of L3 cache, 6MB of L2 cache, DDR5 support, 28 PCIe 5.0 lanes, a 105W TDP, and is designed for the new AM5 socket.

For quite some time, AMD lacked an entry-level and affordable Ryzen 3 processor in the market. Now, with the introduction of the Ryzen 8000G series, we finally have an ultimate budget processor featuring integrated graphics, namely the Ryzen 3 8300G.

The Ryzen 3 8300G is compatible with the AM5 Socket, DDR5 RAM, and PCIe 5.0. It boasts 4 cores and 8 threads with a base frequency of 3.4GHz and a maximum boost frequency of an astonishing 4.9GHz, making it an enticing option for those seeking affordability without compromising on the latest technology. However, unlike other processors in the 8000G series, such as the mid-range 8500G, the R3 8300G does not offer AI Engine capabilities.

What sets the Ryzen 3 8300G apart in the realm of budget processors with integrated graphics is its new cTDP (Configurable TDP) range, which spans from 45W to 65W, and the remarkable AMD Radeon 780M graphics featuring a maximum frequency of 2600MHz. To provide a frame of reference for the graphics performance, they are compared favorably to the GeForce GTX 1030.

How do these processors perform when it comes to integrated graphics?

Let’s conduct a comparison and run some tests to find out.

Before we make a decision regarding the most value-for-money (VFM) processor among the options mentioned above, it would be beneficial to conduct a test and comparison between them. This will enable us to arrive at more definitive conclusions and select the ultimate winner. Personally, I believe that the market is structured in a manner such that whichever processor you choose will effectively fulfill the purpose for which it was designed.

Examining both single-core and multi-threaded performance, it becomes apparent that the Ryzen 7 7600X takes the lead. However, it does come with a higher price tag, which could be considered reasonable in comparison. Nevertheless, I’m enthusiastic about the Ryzen 7 5700G, which shares the same integrated graphics card as the 7600X and offers excellent performance while remaining affordable.

On the other hand, I also perceive significant value in the Core i5-12400. Despite belonging to an earlier generation, I believe it boasts a higher level of quality when compared to the newer Core i3-13100.

Gaming Benchmarks.

Let’s not deceive ourselves and avoid complacency. These processors are not suitable for heavy and demanding gaming. However, they can certainly handle lighter gaming tasks and compete effectively in that regard. It would have been intriguing to compare both Intel’s integrated graphics cards and Ryzen’s RDNA 2.0 graphics. As a result, we conducted a test using a relatively demanding title, Metro Exodus, at medium settings, to assess the impact of the graphics performance on these processors.

Clearly, if you are seeking a processor capable of handling light gaming, Ryzen CPUs should be your primary focus.

We also notice that the newer Ryzen 3 8300G offers integrated graphics performance that exceeds 60% of the Core i3-13100. However, the RX Vega 8 carried by the Ryzen 7 5700G outperforms the AMD Radeon 780M of the Ryzen 3 8300G. Considering the cost of other hardware, thread performance, and graphics, I consider the Ryzen 7 5700G to be the more value-for-money option.

Final thoughts.

If I were to declare a winner among the processors mentioned above, my choice is evident. While all of them offer high-quality performance and represent great value for money, I have a personal preference. I prioritize a core count that will future-proof my system, and if graphics performance is even a slight concern, then a Ryzen processor is the clear choice for me.

However, my main focus is on providing a value-for-money option and minimizing the overall cost of my system. Therefore, I recommend and personally opt for the Ryzen 7 5700G, as it offers a comprehensive package that meets my criteria.

However, a new range of CPUs has now entered the scene with the Ryzen 8000G series. You can, of course, consider a selection of these, with the Ryzen 3 8300G offering a cost-effective solution while keeping pace with the latest technology.
