What sets it apart is its lower TDP, coming in at just 65W compared to the 5800X’s factory default of 105W. Lastly, its affordability and competitive pricing stand out as strong advantages, making it a compelling choice for many.

The Ryzen 7 5700X is genuinely a hidden gem in many aspects when it comes to CPUs. I could draw a parallel with the success enjoyed by the older Ryzen 7 3700X, one of the top-selling and admittedly efficient Ryzen processors. Essentially, what AMD aimed to achieve with this release was to replicate that success. Thus, the 5700X can cater to low-power demanding systems and respond flawlessly to any task, boasting high-frequency clocks and a respectable number of cores.


The AMD Ryzen 7 5700X, priced at $299 and launched in April 2022, is a desktop processor equipped with 8 cores. Belonging to the Ryzen 7 series, it utilizes the Zen 3 (Vermeer) architecture and Socket AM4. With 32 MB of L3 cache, the default clock speed is 3.4 GHz, but it can boost up to 4.6 GHz.

Produced on a 7 nm process with 4,150 million transistors at TSMC’s foundry, the Ryzen 7 5700X offers a simplified overclocking experience, allowing users to adjust the unlocked multiplier freely. With a TDP of 65 W, it aligns with low power consumption for modern PCs. The processor supports DDR4 memory with a dual-channel interface, officially handling speeds up to 3200 MT/s, but overclocking can push this limit higher.

In terms of system communication, the Ryzen 7 5700X employs a PCI-Express Gen 4 connection, but it lacks integrated graphics, requiring a separate graphics card for operation.

If I were to mention something negative, it would be the fact that it is limited to older platforms and cannot work with DDR5 RAM and the PCI_Express 5.0 protocol. This limitation doesn’t provide a more future-proof option.

The Ryzen 7 7600X was the entry-level processor of the generation that many were eagerly anticipating. The significant changes across various aspects of AMD’s CPUs prompted many users to consider upgrading their systems. Some of these notable changes include the transition to the LGA socket, compatibility with DDR5 RAM, adoption of PCIe 5.0, and an increase in core clock speed. However, in this article, we will concentrate on the introductory Ryzen 7000 series processor, which is none other than the Ryzen 5 7600X. Essentially, we’ll encounter the classic 6-core processor layout with 12 threads, which makes me a bit skeptical. I understand that a 6-core CPU still has a place in the market, but as a future option, it has its limitations. In the contemporary landscape of applications, software, and gaming, I personally believe that an 8-core processor should be the foundation of any system, but, of course, that is a personal opinion.

Apart from the features already mentioned, which are certainly noteworthy, I want to emphasize that this CPU, like the entire “Raphael” series, is only compatible with DDR5 RAM. This might be a deterrent for someone seeking an economical option to build a new PC. However, the R5 7600X has numerous benefits, and an additional one is the built-in RDNA 2.0 graphics. For someone uninterested in acquiring a separate graphics card, this could be a great option. The AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, released in September 2022 with a price tag of $299, is a desktop processor sporting 6 cores. It’s part of the Ryzen 7000 series, utilizing the Zen 4 (Raphael) architecture and Socket AM5. Thanks to AMD Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT), the core count effectively doubles to 12 threads. Boasting 32 MB of L3 cache, the default clock speed is 4.7 GHz, with the ability to boost up to 5.3 GHz.

Manufactured on a 5 nm process with 6,570 million transistors at TSMC’s foundry, the Ryzen 5 7600X supports DDR5 memory with a dual-channel interface. The officially supported memory speed is 5200 MT/s, but you can push this even higher. It utilizes a PCI-Express Gen 5 connection and features integrated Radeon Graphics, providing a graphics solution.

A significant drawback of the Ryzen 5 7600X, in my view, is its exclusive compatibility with DDR5 RAM. This, in turn, raises the cost of constructing a new PC, as we need to pair the processor with a new motherboard chipset and DDR5 memory, escalating the overall expenditure for an upgrade. However, it does present a future-oriented option, despite the limitation in the number of cores.

An important aspect of evaluating processors is their performance in Cinebench R23, as we can observe performance data for both single-core and multi-threaded processors. It will be interesting to see if the previous generation of Ryzen processors, specifically the Ryzen 7 5700X in our case, can match up to superior architectures and technologies, such as those offered by the Ryzen 5 7600X.

The Ryzen 7 5700X lags in single-core performance compared to newer processors like Raptor Lake or Raphael. It is also nearly 500 units behind in performance compared to the Ryzen 5 7600X, but that is something we expected. The faster clock speeds and higher frequencies of the Ryzen 7 7700X allow it to perform better.

In multi-threaded performance, there are smaller differences, but there is a logical explanation for this, as the Ryzen 7 5700X has two more physical cores than the R5 7600X.

Thus, we can observe that the substantial differences between the two processors in this benchmark are not noticeable. Personally, I would give extra points to the Ryzen 7 5700X, as with a lower thermal design, it manages to compete with superior processors.

To be honest, one of the main reasons for choosing a Ryzen processor is the desire to enjoy your favorite games. They are known to offer better gaming performance while being in a more favorable pricing situation compared to those from Intel. While the two processors compared in this article may not be the best for gaming (I would recommend an X3D, which is built exclusively for that purpose), it is interesting to see if they exhibit any substantial differences in gaming.

As far as gaming is concerned, we won’t see any noticeable differences, as both processors can handle demanding games with comparable performance. So, if one can be considered more of a value-for-money (VFM) choice, it would be the Ryzen 7 5700X.

A crucial factor in choosing a CPU is power consumption. In this article, we’ll compare the two CPUs in this area and finally conclude which one offers more value for our system overall. So, let’s take a look.

There are mixed thoughts about these two processors.

On one hand, we have the Ryzen 7 5700X, which features 8 cores, excellent performance, and low power consumption. However, combined with DDR4, it won’t provide future value in a new PC. Nevertheless, in terms of pricing and considering the rest of the hardware, it’s extremely budget-friendly, allowing me to invest in a more powerful graphics card.

The Ryzen 5 7600X, on the other hand, introduces a breath of fresh air with DDR5 and PCIe 5.0 compatibility, an advanced 5nm architecture, and a new LGA socket. While the integrated graphics are a positive aspect, I can find the same RDNA 2.0 graphics in the 5700G if needed. What I find less favorable is the 6 cores, which seem quite limited to me, and the overall cost of building a new PC is increasing rapidly.

If I were to recommend one of the two as a more value-for-money (VFM) option, I would choose the Ryzen 7 5700X. However, considering the limitations mentioned above, it’s essential to acknowledge that each user’s needs are subjective.
