The K/KF-series boasts higher core-configurations, larger L3 cache sizes, and additional features, while the non-K/KF series provides a more basic feature set.

Performance of Core i5-13600K.

The 13th Gen Core “Raptor Lake” series is Intel’s latest offering in the CPU market, and the Core i5-13600K is no exception to the generational increases in core-counts. This chip features six performance cores (P-cores) and eight efficient cores (E-cores), providing a 6P+8E configuration, which is higher than the previous-generation i5-12600K “Alder Lake” that had 6P+4E. This seemingly small increase in E-cores is significant as Intel has replaced the P-cores with the new “Raptor Cove” ones that boast higher IPC (instruction per cycle), larger caches, and faster clock speeds.

This is Intel’s second iteration with the Hybrid architecture and it is a strategic move to catch up with AMD’s lead in core-counts. Intel has wisely chosen to keep the P-core count at a minimum (six or eight) and relying on the efficient E-cores to handle most light to moderate workloads. However, in situations where all cores are loaded, the E-cores work in harmony with the high-performance P-cores to deliver a strong multi-threaded performance.

This way, Intel overcomes AMD’s advantage in gaming performance with its high clock-speed P-cores, and also surpasses it in multi-threaded creator workloads with its efficient E-cores.

“Raptor Lake” brings with it the new “Raptor Cove” P-cores that come with several upgrades including higher IPC, the ability to sustain higher clock-speeds, and an increased dedicated L2 cache (now 2 MB, compared to 1.25 MB on “Golden Cove” cores of “Alder Lake”). Meanwhile, the E-cores remain the same “Gracemont” ones but with increased clock speeds, L2 cache sizes, and core counts. Each “Gracemont” 4-core cluster now shares 4 MB of L2 cache, compared to 2 MB on “Alder Lake.” The Core i5-13600K has two such clusters, providing eight E-cores, and the shared L3 cache size has also increased to 24 MB, compared to 20 MB on the i5-12600K.

Power consumption and thermals.

The Core i5-13600K stands out from its more powerful sibling, the Core i9-13900K, in terms of thermal performance.
